چکیده
WiMAX based on IEEE std 802.16 is believed one of the important technologies of 4G. It aims to provide high-speed access over distance of several to tens kilometers. In IEEE std 802.16-2004, WiMAX defines an optional mesh mode, with which multihop, multi-route, self-organizing and selfhealing communications can be achieved in metropolitan-level areas. This chapter presents medium access control (MAC) protocol of WiMAX mesh mode, on frame structure, network configuration, network entry, and scheduling algorithms. It also summaries the most recent progress on data slots resource scheduling and allocation algorithms. Finally, an application example of using WiMAX mesh network for highspeed and low-cost maritime communications is also presented in this chapter.

Joint Routing and Bandwidth Allocation Protocol for Ieee 802.16 Wimax Mesh Networks
In the recent years, the web and VoIP services has motivated the development of new broadband access technologies due to the increased demands for faster connection [12]. For the upcoming generation, IEEE 802.16 standard, WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access Forum) has become the most potential wireless access technology. WiMAX uses a common MAC protocol to incorporate the set...
متن کاملAssessing the Effect of WiMAX System Parameter Settings on MAC-level Local DoS Vulnerability
The research community has established that WiMAX networks suffer from Denial of Service (DoS) vulnerabilities. In this paper, we analyze how WiMAX system parameter settings increase or decrease DoS vulnerabilities of WiMAX networks. The behavior of the WiMAX MAC level protocol is sensitive to the settings of core system parameters. Unlike traditional network-based DoS attacks, attacks resultin...
متن کاملUbiquitous fair bandwidth allocation for multimedia traffic on a WiMAX mesh network with multi-channels
The WiMAX, also known as IEEE 802.16, provides a mechanism for deploying high-speed wireless mesh network, (an ubiquitous wireless network) in metropolitan areas. WiMAX technology can be used as “last mile ubiquitous” broadband connections to deliver streaming audio or video to clients. Thus, Quality of Service (QoS) is very important for WiMAX networks. Providing QoS in multi-hop WiMAX network...

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) comprising of tiny, power-constrained nodes are getting very popular due to their potential uses in wide applications like monitoring of environmental conditions, various military and civilian applications. The critical issue in the node is energy consumption since it is operated using battery, therefore its lifetime should be maximized for effective utilization ...

In this paper, a simulation model for IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) wireless mesh networks with distributed scheduling is developed. It provides a framework for the evaluation of reservation-based distributed scheduling (RBDS) policies at the medium access control (MAC) layer. The simulation model, called WiMAX-RBDS-Sim, is developed under the OPNET event-driven simulation environment. It provides interf...
